Ian Dennewald has over 40 years experience as a professional model maker and in that time has created models of pretty much every size, scale, and to every level of detail imaginable. All his models are hand crafted in his workshop in Sydney, Australia.

Ian’s customers include large corporations wanting models for board rooms and exhibitions, naval architects, yacht & power boat clubs wanting trophies, along with boat owners wanting a replica of their own vessel.

Maritime models date back centuries and not too long ago boat hulls were designed by firstly cre- ating a timber half hull to the desired shape and then lofting the dimensions onto paper so a full size layout of frames and sections could be created.

Hopefully over the next few pages the craft of making model boats can be explained and Ian’s love of the craft can be shared. It is a constantly evolving thing and every new build creates new challenges and hopefully great results that will live on for many years in your boardroom, foyer, office, or living room. Hand crafting a model takes time, to achieve the best results is a skill learnt over many decades.
